Forms with approval flows

Forms with approval flows

Set up approval flows for your forms at any time! Create forms and grant designated individuals the power to approve or reject submissions. This feature is handy for various scenarios:

  • 🍹 Vacation requests

  • 💼 Initial screenings

  • 👨‍💻 Safe code releases

  • 💽 Vendor requests

  • 💵 Expense approvals

  • And more!

Add approval flows to an existing form in 3 steps

  1. On the Forms homepage, locate the form you wish to edit. Click the three dots on the right side to open the contextual menu, then choose “Configure” to adjust your form settings.

  2. In the Setup menu, scroll down until you see the option “Use form for approval flow”. Once activated, choose form approvers — individual teammates and/or a team. When you pick a team, each active member receives the Approve/Deny request in chat (Slack DM).

  3. Save your form once you’re set. Now your form is ready to support approval requests from participants!

Allow approval comments

When Use form for approval flow is enabled, you can turn on Allow approval comments in the same Setup section.

  • Approvers may leave an optional short comment when they approve or reject (over-limit comments are rejected).
  • Web app — comment field on the approval action.
  • Slack — a modal collects the comment when the approver acts from chat.
  • Microsoft Teams, Discord, and Google Chat — comment collection from chat is not supported on these platforms today; use the web app for commented approvals.

The requester can see the comment in the form response and approval reports. On Slack, the comment is collected as part of the same approve/reject chat action — no separate public API call is required from chat.
